Organization Description: The International Commission of Jurists and its Center
for Independence of Judges and Lawyers monitors legal developments as well as
the human rights situation in various regions. Interns are assigned substantive
tasks under the supervision of the legal staff.
Internship Description: The ICJ offers up to eight internship programs for law
students. The UN internships (Spring or Summer) coincide with the meetings of
the UN Commission on Human Rights and the UN Sub-commission for the Promotion
and Protection of Human Rights. Interns attend these sessions, review documents
and prepare the proceedings. The CIJL interns (Summer and Winter) research and
write drafts for the Center's annual report "Attacks on Justice." Only CIJL
legal researchers are granted a stipend and must stay a minimum of four to six
months. Stipends vary according to nature of work, qualifications and ICJ
funding.

Organization Description: Disability Rights Advocates is a small nonprofit legal
center dedicated to protecting and advancing the civil and human rights of
people with disabilities through impact litigation as well as training and
education. DRA works to end discrimination in areas such as employment, public
accommodations, health care, transportation, education and housing.
Internship Description: Each summer DRA hires a minimum of 3-5 summer law clerks
to work with attorneys on disability rights cases. Clerks receive excellent
training in civil rights litigation. Salaries are $12.00 but preference is given
to students able to secure work-study or public interest grants. A ten week
commitment is preferred. Second and third year students may also work during the
academic year for course credit.

Internship Description: The AAAS Science and Human Rights Intern Program offers
a student a part time opportunity to work 16hrs/week. The intern is responsible
for drafting AAAS Human Rights Action Network alerts on cases of scientists
whose human rights have been violated. The intern also conducts work on the
Directory of Human Rights Resources on the Internet in order to maintain the
online version and prepare the printed version for publication. The intern will
as also conduct online research and maintain contacts with local and

Organization Description: RUGMARK, a nonprofit, child labor-rights organization
is working to eradicate child labor and supports education programs for former
child workers. With locations in Germany, India, Nepal, Pakistan, England, and
the US, RUGMARK recruits carpet producers and importers to make or sell carpets
that are free of child labor, and encourages producers to employ adults at the
legal minimum wage instead. By agreeing to adhere to strict guidelines producers
receive the right to put the RUGMARK label on their carpets. The label is the
best assurance that the carpet was not made by children.

Internship Description: Interns assist staff in the research of human rights
violations in particular countries and in organizing campaigns on select human
issues, such as land mines or physician participation in the death penalty.
Interns may be assigned a geographic area to monitor for individual violations
of human rights and help draft letters to governments to protest such

Internship Description: Summer law student interns assist attorneys with
investigation, research, and drafting in on going cases, prospective cases and
amicus curiae briefs in all areas of sexual orientation, gender identity and HIV
discrimination. Interns may also draft and/or edit publications for public
education.
