Description: The NEA is the Federal grantmaking agency that Congress created to support the visual, literary, design, and performing arts. Their mission is to twofold: to foster excellence, diversity, and vitality of the arts in the United States, and to help broaden the availability and appreciation of the arts. The Endowment's Office of General counsel is responsible for providing legal advice to the Endowment and responding to the day-to-day legal issues that arise in a small federal agency. Internship/Seasonal Positions: Interns are involved in all day-to-day operations of the General Counsel's Office. Interns work closely with the General Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel and with other staff. In particular, interns work closely with Congressional Liaison, Communications, the Chairman's Office and various Programs. They work on an extremely broad range of projects designed to introduce the intern to the full panoply of legal issues and tasks that arise in acting as legal counsel to arts organizations and small government agencies, provide the student with crash course in both art law and the administrative process.
