Description: The Environmental Enforcement Section is the largest litigating section of the Department of Justice. With 160 attorneys, EES has responsibility for representing the United States in federal civil efforcement of all major environmental statutes including, CERCLA, RCRA, the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act. While the EPA is the section's primary client agency the office also handles work on behalf of NOAA, the Departments of Interior and Agriculture and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Internship/Seasonal Positions: With a diverse work load and the demand of over 1000 active federal cases, the section is continually looking for talented, dedicated law students with an interest in gaining practical experience in environmental law. Law clerks are called on to perform legal research on environmental law issues as well as issues of federal practice and procedure, corporate structure and liability and bankruptcy. Law clerks draft legal memoranda, briefs and written discovery in active federal cases.
