Organization Description: The Alaska Maritime Refuge is a collection of over
2,500 islands and headlands around the coast of Alaska. This ecosystem supports
most of the nesting seabird population of the United States. It is also home to
marine mammals of several species.
Internship Program: Interns work in monitoring seabird colonies in remote areas.
They also assist the staff by developing interpretive programs and staffing the

Organization Description: CACS, Homer Alaska is a nonprofit, grassroots
environmental education organization that provides educational programs at two
locations. Wynn Nature Center is a 130-acre preserve about 5 miles from Homer
with a day-use cabin and trail system. Shared housing is provided for interns
and staff. Peterson Bay Field Station is a semi-remote, rustic facility about 5
miles from Homer across Kachemak Bay, accessible only by boat. The Field Station
serves as the base for day tours on a coastal forest trail system with access to
several beaches. The Field Station has shared housing.
Internship Program: Naturalist Interns- 2 positions. Energetic, creative people
needed to lead interpretive natural history hikes and day tours and participate
in research or environmental education projects. Academic background in botany
and forest ecology and/or marine biology with field courses preferred. Interns
need experience with teaching, good physical condition, and the maturity to live
in group situations and work as part of a team. Alaska experience preferred. May
be able to arrange academic credit for projects. The projects are for 2 1/2-3
months June 1 to Labor Day.

Organization Description: Audubon Sharon consists of two facilities, the Sharon
Audubon Center and Miles Wildlife Sanctuary, located in northwestern
Connecticut. Sharon Audubon Center consists of 1143 acres of woodland, two ponds
and 11 miles of trails, which acts as an outdoor classroom for many
environmental education programs. The Center also has an exhibit building, gift
shop and wildlife rehabilitation facility. Emily Winthrop Miles Wildlife
Sanctuary preserves and protects 1500 acres of woodlands, wetlands and abandoned
agricultural fields in a sheltered stream valley.
Internship Program: Seasonal Positions are available at both locations.
Positions include internships in environmental education and bird banding.
$267.50/week plus housing. Completion of at least two years of college course
work in environmental studies or a related field. The most important assets are
a strong natural history background, enthusiasm, commitment, a desire to learn,

Organization Description: The New Forest Project is an international non-profit
organization based in Washington, DC that conducts programs on agro-forestry,
watershed management water and sanitation, environment and public health.
Internship Program: Two interns each semester assist staff members with the
programs projects and on going programs.
