Organization Description: The Alaska Maritime Refuge is a collection of over 2,500 islands and headlands around the coast of Alaska. This ecosystem supports most of the nesting seabird population of the United States. It is also home to marine mammals of serveral species.
Internship Program: Interns work in monitoring seabird colonies in remote areas. They also assist the staff by developing interpretive programs and staffing the visitor center in Homer, Alaska.

Organization Description: CACS, Homer Alaska is a nonprofit, grassroots environmental
education organization that provides educational programs at two locations. Wynn Nature
Center is a 130-acre preserve about 5 miles from Homer with a day-use cabin and trail
system. Shared housing is provided for interns and staff. Peterson Bay Field Station is a
semi-remote, rustic facility about 5 miles from Homer across Kachemak Bay, accessible only
by boat. The Field Station serves as the base for day tours on a coastal forest trail
system with access to several beaches. The Field Station has shared housing.
Internship Program: Naturalist Interns- 2 positions. Energetic, creative people needed to lead interpretive natural history hikes and daytours and participate in research or environmental education projects. Academic background in botany and forest ecology and/or marine biology with field courses preferred. Interns need experience with teaching, good physical condition, and the maturity to live in group situations and work as part of a team. Alaska experience preferred. May be able to arrange academic credit for projects. The projects are for 2 1/2-3 months beginning either June 1 or June 15.

Organization Description: The Northern Center is America's most northernmost environmental
organization with 1300 members dedicated to preserving wilderness and natural habitats in
interior and northern Alaska and promoting the conservation and sustainable use of the
region's natural resources. They are a privately funded public interest advocacy
organization dedicated to empowering the grassroots through information and education and
promoting public participation in resource management decisions.
Internship Program: The Northern Center teaches its interns sought-after skills for a career in the environmental movement while working to protect internationally significant wildlands such as Alaska's boreal forest and the Artic National Wildlife Refuge. Interns must be able to write clearly and precisely and motivate others with the spoken word. Interns must be willing to commit to the Northern Center for 2 months of 20-40 hours per week. Free house sitting arrangements usually in rustic cabins.

Organization Description: The San Joaquin County Resident Outdoor School is a resident
school where children and their classroom teachers, grades 5-6, attend for 5 days, four
nights, and exploring coastal redwoods and ocean environments through experience based
lessons.
Internship Program: The School hires 12 naturalist-interns annually. The program runs from the first full week after Labor Day through the last week in May for a total of 33 weeks. A BA or BS is a minimum qualificaton, plus certificates in First Aid and CPR and that has experience with children. Housing is provided throughout the program plus 13 meals are provided each week. They seek people who can work for the full 33 week period. The schedule begins on September 8 and concludes on May30. Interviews and hiring start April 1. The positions are filled as soon as possible.

Organization Description: Audubon In Sharon consists of two facilities, the Sharon Audubon Cener and Miles Wildlife Sanctuary, located in northwestern Connecticut. Sharon Audubon Center consists of 1143 acres of woodland, two ponds and 11 miles of trails, which act as an outdoor classroom for many environmental education programs. The Center also has an exhibit building gift shop and wildlife rehabilitation facility. Emily Winthrop Miles Wildlife Sanctuary preserves and protects 1500 acres of woodlands, wetlands and abandoned agricultural fields in a sheltered stream valley.
Internship Program: Seasonal Positions are available at both locations. Positions include internships in environmental education, bird banding, wildlife research and land management. $245/week plus housing. Complettion of at least two years of college coursework in environmental studies or a related filed .
